Prambanan is a site that has over thirty Hindu and Buddhist temples and palaces from mainly the 8th and 9th centuries. Again, it was the Buddhist Saliendra and Hindu Sanjaya groups who built it. Just like Borobudur, resconstruction started around the 1930s, but in May of 2006, a huge earthquake damaged a lot of it, but most of it has been restored.
The three biggest temples are dedicated to the three main Hindu gods.
Shiva - The Destoyer
Shiva's temple is the tallest at 154 feet (47 meters). It is decorated with many carvings, including a walkway that tells the story of the first half of the Ramayana epic - the banishment of Rama from his kingdom and the abduction of his wife by a demon and Rama's restoration to the throne. (from the dictionary). There is also a statue of Shiva in the temples's inner sanctuary as well as another statue of Shiva's elephant-headed son, Ganesh.
Brahma - The Creator
Brahma's temple is just south of Shiva's temple a few meters. It's just as decorated and finishes the Ramayana epic where Shiva's temple leaves off.
Vishnu - The Sustainer
Vishnu's temple is to the north of Shiva's and it tells the stories of Krishna, the eighth of Vushnu's nine earthly incarnations.
There are many others smaller temples to the north and south of the main three, but they weren't as interesting (to me), so I won't bother with that ...
